Topics for project ideas
HOME
At this moment I am undecided whether to make a project based on a personal or social theme.
privacy, intimacy and discretion
Series of single images that try to untangle the concept of privacy, intimacy and discretion. For example, portray a single person in a group of people that symbolize the absence of personality and intimacy (the personal preferences we express when we buy or when we go to a play) of data collections. I'm thinking of different visual approaches with structured research.

QUALITY OF LIFE
-so far away from nature
investigating the feeling that there is nothing in what we do that it is what we are supposed to. modern life as an artificial and unnecessary experience.
FAMILY

Families understood as a system of origin of ideas and beliefs, about the world and about oneself. Love and hate.
I would like to work with my brothers and sister in the reworking of personal family memory. Although very different from each other, what we have in common is a series of problematic issues that we experience since we moved away from the family. As for the rest, we are almost strangers, trapped in a relationship dominated by tensions and studded with fears. What binds us is the analysis of our fears and weaknesses, looking for a common denominator, the element to destroy in order to free ourselves from ourselves. I would like to explore the sense of feeling dysfunctional in society, starting from the family unit which is the origin of this feeling. By revealing it, do we reveal ourselves or the idea that others want about us?
Keywords: family, trauma, reconciliation, borders,
system of learning, identity, representation, relationships, dysfunctionality and oppression.

These two topics could be a good chance to work within Dutch culture, something I have missed since I have moved here.
what if I merge the two topics?
PRIVACY AND INTIMACY OF A FAMILY GAZE
3rd week
2nd week
The term privacy now refers to the control, by the person, of the information that concerns him or her, as well as, in our daily care, that set of procedures that we formally apply, but which in substance are often broken for a set of situations both environmental and for an inveterate habit to speak out loud, to talk in the corridors, to confide everything through the mobile phone, even in front of a large audience. Intimacy is a feminine noun of intimate, what is found in the innermost part. The term "intimate parts" refers to the genitals; hence intimate hygiene or "underwear", which has come to designate the old haberdashery, when it is transformed into a boutique for underwear and petticoats. The adjective, attributed to an individual, comes to identify a person to whom we are bound by an intense emotional bond, a common feeling, or even collaboration and trust.
In this project, I would like to use different media and mix a documentary method with fiction. From now till the end of October I'm gonna do some experiment with photography, sculpture, and painting while looking and scanning the images from the album. In November I hope to start building up th project.
- I need some references for works that have used both archival material and new material.

QUESTION AND INPUT PANNEL
The family album is the starting point. Together with my brothers and sisters, we will develop new images that come closer to our childhood memories.
The project consists of three parts:
- an installation with all the family albums,
- photos on the wall
- publication of 3 family albums, one for each brother and sister, which are the result of a selection of archive photos.
VOYEURISM - EGO
IDENTITY - POWER
INTIMACY - PRIVACY
REFLECTION(THEORY)-IDENTIFICATION
SUBJECT - LOOK BACK, OPPOSITIONAL GAZE
CRITICAL SPECTATOR - POWER
DECONSTRUCTION - INTERROGATION
MEMORY - RECONCILIATION
SYSTEM OF REPRESENTATION

A non-linear narrative, but one that proceeds by fragments.

Archives
Analysis, editing and selection of the family archive. for:
- cue for reflection on the role/relation of the subject/spectator.
- use the albums as an object for an installation.
- find images that can recall particular moments of our experience.
- produce new material from the archive material (collages?)

Producing new images
- each image will be single
- use different media.

"While traumas involving large-scale or historical violence are widely represented in trauma theory, familial trauma is still largely considered a private matter, associated with personal failure. This book contributes to the emerging field of feminist trauma theory by bringing focus to works that contest this tendency, offering new understandings of the significance of the literary testimony and its relationship to broader society." Meera Atkinson, The poetics of transgenerational trauma

Slavoj Žižek’s paradoxical statement that a coherent, truthful account of the traumatic past belies its own truthfulness. A narrative of trauma cannot be a clear narrative. This requires a different artistic, semiotic posture: not representation but performativity, so that conventional prescriptive moral rules can be replaced by an effective, affect-based ethics.

INSPIRATION
Lieko Shiga
I have been totally fascinated by his method and aesthetics for a long time. The relationship with subjects and places is an aspect that I would like to improve and expand in my practice. I think this is the right project to adventure me in this direction since all the production is based on performance and fiction.

CONFESSIONAL ART
About spectator and subjet (something I want to take into consideration for the exhibition and or for the archive)
PAUL MPAGI SEPUYA
I want to heighten the viewer’s awareness of their position. The photographs allow the viewer to gaze into a private space. However, the fact of the mirror in their making reveals the exclusion of the viewer because, in looking at the surface of a mirror, all included subjects are present in the reflected image. The viewer is allowed to see while being simultaneously excluded formally and conceptually. Only those things that exist outside of the formal concerns of art can allow for that inclusion: the recognition and social proximity of the viewers to the subjects.

WHAT DO I EXPECT
I expect a work that is heterogeneous which talks about how personal and familial traumas are of social matter and not a personal failure. I want to play with the role of spectator and subject.

I also expect a lot of backing off and steps further, and to find in the process something small that is working very well and triggers the right outcome.
to focus on something smaller than my entire family
